Primavera Sound Barcelona
When we said that thing about “choose your own party”, we weren’t kidding. When we announce the line up, with its over 200 names, it becomes much more yours than ours. The truth of the matter is that it becomes totally yours. Do what you want with it. Your festival, your tastes! Turn it upside down: each person has his or her own headliners. Turn it inside out. Turn it over and then turn it back again. And defy all logic: start your day dancing to electronic music in Primavera Bits and end it singing along to the guitar anthems on the SEAT Village Stage with the DJ sets by de Jarvis Cocker, Tim Burgess and Richard Colburn, three music encyclopaedias-on-legs. They will be sessions of hit after hit as they themselves have spent decades composing them. Without them, without Different Class by Pulp, without Some Friendly by The Charlatans, without If You’re Feeling Sinister by Belle and Sebastian, maybe we wouldn’t even be here. They opened the door to so many things for us and this year they will take us right through to the exit. Do you remember when riffs and beats had their allotted times and they had never even set eyes on each other: luckily the days of pigeonholing have gone.
